The Educational Services and Technology Departments work together to ensure curriculum integration of appropriate technologies. Teachers and administrators meet at the building and district level to review curriculum materials. Curricular materials are adopted on a scheduled basis. As a curricular area comes up for its regular adoption, appropriate software is chosen to support the adopted curriculum. When software is selected, the Technology Department works to install the technologies and provide training opportunities to staff.
The De Soto School District is committed to providing a world-class, state-of-the-art, flexible learning and working environment, fully supported by technology, that will guarantee lifelong learning experiences and collaborative opportunities within the community and beyond. It is not enough to simply have a computer and an Internet connection in the classroom if they are not made part of the learning process. Through multi-modal professional development opportunities, students and teachers in the 21st Century Teaching and Learning Initiative explore the purposeful integration of technologies into teaching and learning. Technology is a tool to support knowledge acquisition, information processing, and communications. The educational value comes not from having access to it, but rather in how it is used.
